Nearly £95,000 was raised at the Songs for Sumatra charity concert in London in February 2026, providing vital support to children affected by the devastating floods in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
The event united Indonesian artists, including performers with West End experience, alongside the Swara Nusantara Choir and an Indonesian Dance Group, presenting the traditional Ratoh Jaroe dance. Supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture, the Indonesian Embassy in London, and the principal sponsors, Bank Mandiri and Bank BRI, the concert served as a powerful expression of solidarity through music and culture.
Initiated by Shafa Sabila Fadli, the concert aimed to ease the burden on flood-affected communities, particularly children. Proceeds are being channelled through Human Aid Initiative UK, in partnership with Human Initiative Indonesia, to repair and rebuild damaged schools—helping children return to safe learning environments as quickly as possible.
With over 110,000 people still affected by the floods and landslides, the impact of this initiative is both timely and deeply meaningful. It is a reminder that even from afar, compassion and collective action can help restore hope where it is needed most.
